Common Questions About Hail Damage Repair

Can I see hail damage from the ground?

Sometimes you can spot dented gutters, downspouts, and vents, and those are strong clues. But the damage that matters, bruised mats and granule loss on the shingles themselves, usually is not visible from the yard. Ground clues tell you to get an inspection, the roof walk tells you the truth.

Does small hail really hurt a roof?

Hail around an inch, quarter-sized, can absolutely bruise shingles, especially on roofs past their first decade or when wind drives the stones in at an angle. Pea-sized hail usually does not. Age, wind speed, and shingle condition matter as much as stone size, which is why we check instead of assume.

How soon after a hailstorm should I get an inspection?

Within a few weeks is ideal. The evidence is freshest, you have not lost track of the storm date, and most insurance policies have time limits for reporting storm damage. Waiting a year turns a clean, obvious claim into an argument.

What if only one side of my roof was hit?

That is common, hail almost always favors the slopes facing the storm's wind. Depending on the damage, the answer might be repairing one slope or replacing shingles on the affected sections while the sheltered slopes carry on. We document slope by slope so the fix, and any claim, matches reality.
